Analyst Alexander Pasechnik talks about the importance of Trans Adriatic gas pipeline for European gas market

Brussels still hasn’t let up in the development of new routes of gas supplies to Europe alternative to Russian gas transportation projects. Last week, Thessaloniki hosted a ceremony of beginning of the construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). The vice-president of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič, participated in the event, said that he considered this event as "historic", and tried to say a few words in Greek.

Nevertheless, such a pompous start doesn’t necessarily mean safe fast finish – it’s not the fact that the project will be implemented at all. The fate of canceled Nabucco may well comprehend it, for which the European Commission had high hopes. And TAP is just another interpretation of the so-called "Southern Gas Corridor", prospects of which is questionable.
