Gazprom is unlikely to agree on intermediate contract with Kiev

Gazprom is unlikely to agree to an intermediate gas contract with the Ukraine until the dispute will be resolved in Stockholm, but its attitude could change if the gas company will receive permission for South Stream in exchange, Sberbank CIB’s analyst Valery Nesterov thinks.

Earlier on Tuesday, the vice-president of the European Commissioner responsible for Energy Günther Oettinger offered the Ukraine and Russia to conclude an interim contract to supply a certain amount of Russian gas, and then to wait for the conclusion of the Stockholm arbitration.

"This proposal (on the interim contract) is not entirely new, something similar has already been voiced. The Gazprom’s stance, as far as I understand, doesn’t mean consideration of interim arrangements. It is simple - there is a contract that must be honoured. Or at least initially to repay the debt, or to start repaying it, and then, perhaps, an interim contract will be considered, that is to start from scratch, to forget about everything and to sign an interim contract - Gazprom is unlikely to agree with this. First the money, then the sale,"- Nesterov commented on the situation to the RIA Novosti.
