The EC is ready to allocate only $1 billion instead of 2 billion euro, which the Ukraine requests

The European Commission’s President, Jose Manuel Barroso has reported to leaders of the EU countries that in the near future the European Commission could provide a maximum of $1 billion (790 million euro) to help Kiev to finance the purchase of Russian gas.

These funds may be provided in the short term, as participants of the negotiations reported, but this amount is not enough to cover the current budget needs of the Ukraine.
