Norilsk Nickel keeps expanding its corporate fleet

Norilsk Nickel has reported that the transfer and acceptance certificate for the river service tug built by the Nizhegorodsky Teplokhod plant was signed in Bor town, the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

This is the second tug built for Norilsk Nickel at this plant. The building of the tug was completed in the framework of the company’s port fleet modernization investment program. The program presupposes building of two river and two sea tugs as well as a liquid fuel bunkering barge.

The main parameters of the river tug are as follows: length – 21.35 metres, width – 6.61 metres, hull height -2.4 metres, draught – 1.8 metres. The total capacity of the ship's engine – 300 h.p. The value of the tug equals 164 million rubles.

The program of building of the tug fleet is at its last stage: the first sea tug was built in 2008, the first river tug – in 2009. The acceptance of the second sea tug is planned for this week. The sea tugs were built at Pella shipbuilding plant.

The liquid fuel bunkering barge will be completed in Q3, 2013.

The building of the river tug is a part of the strategy of Norilsk Nickel, aimed at the foundation of a modern fleet providing transport independence and improving the efficiency of the company’s activities.

From 2006 Norilsk Nickel have put into operation five ice-class container vessels – the basis of the company’s sea fleet. The sea fleet guarantees transportation of cargo to Norilsk industrial region and delivery of ware metal products to domestic and external sales markets all the year round. The annual cargo turnover of the company’s fleet at the lines of Northern Sea Route makes up about 1 million tons, including 0.45 million tons of ware metal products and 0.55 million tons of cargo for Norilsk industrial region. The company’s ice-class tanker has been successfully used since November 2011.
