Bashneft-Dobycha intends to appeal court’s decision on infliction of damage to environment

Bashkir Environmental Interdistrict Prosecutor's Office has conducted an inspection on the emission of an oily liquid from an oil well, located in the Mechetlinsky district. According to the press centre of the supervisory authority, it was found that due to violation of rules of industrial safety by workers, the equipment at the Bashneft-Dobycha’s oil well was depressurized. This led to blow out head of oily mixture and contamination of more than 15 acres of agricultural land. According to calculations of specialists of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage’ republic's department, the damage exceeded $1.1 million.

Environmental prosecutor appealed to the courts and demanded the owner of the well and contractors to compensate for the environmental damage and to reclaim the land plot. The Court agreed with the arguments of the prosecutor's office and fully satisfied them. In addition, by order of the interdistrict prosecutor’s office the contractor of works, carried out at the well, Bashneftegeofizika and responsible employee were fined for 33 thousand rubles for the land damage.
