In 2012, Sakhalin Energy to supply 16 additional shipments of LPG to Japan

In 2012, Sakhalin Energy, the operator of the Sakhalin-2 project, will supply 16 shipment of LPG, produced at the only Russian LPG plant, in excess of a plan to Japanese electrogenerating gas companies, Governor of the Sakhalin region Alexander Khoroshavin reported at the conference “Oil and gas of Sakhalin”.

He explained that the volume of each standard shipment is 145 thousand cubic meters. In 2011, 11 additional shipments of Sakhalin LPG were supplied to Japan.

“Japanese energy companies have shown huge interest in the increase of their LPG consumption. The increase of Japanese gas needs became a direct consequence of the country’s turning away totally from nuclear power after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Taking into account that the Japanese nuclear power was the third largest in the world by the installed capacity of nuclear reactors, it can be considered a major step on the way to change the current global energy system in the Far East and to shift the potential energy sources to oil and gas,”- the governor said, the RIA Novosti reported.

Khoroshavin noted that in these conditions Sakhalin may and must play an important role in the provision of the global energy safety in the region.
