The Irkutsk Region to develop gas chemicals centre regardless of the term of putting Kovykta into operation

The decision of Gazprom to delay the launch of Kovykta oil and gas condensate deposit won’t influence the intention of the Irkutsk Region to found a gas chemical centre in the region, the Governor, Sergey Yeroschenko claimed.

“I am absolutely okay with the different programs the companies decide. We must have our own development strategy for the problematic territories and the territories being our assets”, he said.

“There are enough gas assets – Verkhnechonskneftegaz and Itera (both belong to Rosneft) as well as the Irkutsk Oil Company”, Yeroschenko noted, having added, that the authorities have to provide for their industrial development. Particularly, he reminded that Irkutsk Oil Company had already expressed its readiness to launch the first gas chemical facilities with own generation in Ust-Kut on the basis of its small north deposits in 2015.
