Brussels is going to get to know everything about the contracts of Gazprom

As the Kommersant has got to know, the European Commission will still be able to get all the information about commercial contracts of Gazprom in Europe, including on prices. According to new amendments to the law, all intergovernmental agreements on energy must be coordinated with the European Commission before they were signed, and all non-EU gas suppliers must inform the regulator about the parameters of long-term contracts, which may be requested "to assess their impact on energy security". Until recently, such approach would seriously threaten the position of Gazprom. Now, its influence seems limited, although the data on contracts can be used for political attacks on the monopoly.

The Kommersant has two draft laws of the European Commission, which should be the basic documents for the generated Energy Union of the EU. The first one is dedicated to the creation of an information exchange mechanism on concluded and preparing intergovernmental agreements in the energy sector (amendments to the Decision N994 / 2012). The second one is a substantive amendment to the Directive on the security of gas supply dated 2010, adopted in response to the Russian-Ukrainian gas crisis of 2009. The Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič, who is responsible for creating the Energy Union said in an interview with the Kommersant in April 2015, that the adoption of these documents was one of the main goals of Brussels: they would allow it to get important information about the content of the gas contracts, on the basis of which it would be able to create "a kind benchmark, and averaged contract".
