Brussels prepares European companies for negotiations on Trans-Caspian gas pipeline

​Brussels is preparing the European oil and gas companies for negotiations with the gas concern of Turkmenistan “Turkmengas” on the issues of the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline. It is planned to found “Caspian Development Corporation” for that purpose.

The Vice-President of the EU Commission for energy, M. Shefchovich, intends to visit Turkmenistan in the coming months to hold negotiations by this project.

Among the interested companies the western media name BP, Statoil, Total and others that run business in Azerbaijan, as well as RWE and Eni that have agreements with Turkmenistan on geological exploration in the national sector of the Caspian with a perspective of gas purchase.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the gas market in the Caspian region and Central Asia. Speaking about the construction of the pipeline in the direction of Europe, the best route would be the construction of a 300-km long gas pipeline via the Caspian to the coast of Azerbaijan that has the respective infrastructure for re-export of the Turkmen gas to Turkey and then to Europe, trend reports.
