The Bulgarian Government: the "South Stream" does not violate EU law.

The intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the "South Stream" gas pipeline on the territory of Bulgaria, which was signed in 2008, does not provide exclusive rights, concessions or tendering for "South Stream Bulgaria", which will be the owner of the pipeline, and therefore does not violate the EU law.

This is confirmed in the statement of the Bulgarian government, officially transmitted to the European Commission (EC), the government press service stated. The document also stresses that creating the "South Stream Bulgaria" company by the government's decision did not violate the EU law in 2010.

This statement was prepared in connection with the request of the EC dated June 3rd, 2014, in which the fears of a possible violation of the EU law in relation to the appointment of the joint company "South Stream Bulgaria" as the operator and the owner of the pipeline were expressed.

Earlier in connection with the request of the EC, the Bulgarian Prime Minister ,Plamen Oresharski ordered a suspension of all work on the project.
