Nord Stream resumed gas pumping after a 9-hours break

The pipeline operator Nord Stream has resumed gas pumping via the first branch of the gas pipeline after a 9-hours break, RBK reports citing German analysts in gas industry.

There was a scheduled a stop of pumping to get prepared for the launch of the second branch, whose start is planned for October 8th, 2012.

They currently operate only 1 branch of Nord Stream. Its project capacity makes up 27.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year. Commercial deliveries started on November 8, 2011. The throughput of the pipeline will make up 55 billion cubic meters of gas a year in the future.

At the same time Nord Stream carries out a feasibility analysis of the construction of the third and fourth gas pipeline branches. The analysis is to be finished before the end of the year.

Nord Stream is a new route for the export of the Russian gas to Europe. The gas pipeline goes via the water area of the Baltic Sea from the port Portovaya (near Vyborg) to the coast of Germany (near Greifswald). The length of the gas pipeline makes up 1l224 km. The shares in the company are the following: Gazprom-51%, Wintershall Holding and E.On Ruhrgas – 15.5% each, Gasuine and GDF Suez – 9% each.
