Gazprom to start a share buyback?

Gazprom, which hasn’t made special efforts to increase its markt capitalization, has hinted that it can carry out buyback using the example of ExxonMobil to support price of its shares. Such a step can be a reply for increasing criticism and plans of the government to estimate managements of state-owned companies also by capitalization dynamics – the Gazprom’s one fell by three times since 2007. According to the Kommersant, bankers propose this idea to other state-owned companies too, for example, to Rosneft.A share buyback may stimulate the growth of the Gazprom’s shares, but other fundamental rates will have impact in the long-term perspective, such as conditions on the gas market and the possibility to control costs.
