Oettinger threatens the EU countries supporting the "South Stream".

Guenther Oettinger, the EU Energy Commissioner, has threatened the countries of the European Union, which support the project "South Stream" in its current form, in an article he wrote for the German newspaper Handelsblatt states.
According to him, the Commission can not accept the fact that a number of EU member states signed an agreement with Russia to build the pipeline, which violates the agreed together European law. Oettinger urged the EU to postpone the project until the time it complies with the European law.

The commissioner recommended those who continue to implement the project to understand the consequences and think about whether or not this is the right moment to sign further agreements that relate to the "South Stream".

On June 24th "Gazprom" and the Austrian OMV Corporation signed a shareholders' agreement of the joint venture South Stream Austria, which defines the modalities for the implementation of the "South Stream" in Austria, during the visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Republic. The Austrian President Heinz Fischer called the project "appropriate and helpful."
