The Ukraine gave no reasons to doubt in the reliability of its gas transit

The EU Commission has no reason to worry about gas supply to the Ukraine from Russia, a member of the EU Commission for energy issues, M. A. Caniete said.

“As gas reserves in the Ukraine are higher than last year ”, he said adding that gas is pumped there from the neighboring countries as well, and the consumption is lower than at the same period in 2014.

The “winter package” presupposes the advance payment and this rule will be followed, he said. The protocol is realized in the form it was signed.

The Ukraine doesn’t purchase gas now but the gas flow goes via the Ukraine to other countries and gas is shipped there without any problems in full transparency.

M. A. Caniete added that the Ukraine is a reliable transit route for the Russian gas to the EU. So we don’t worry.

In future the new price will be discussed but currently the protocol is realized in the proper way, he said.

He added that Nord Stream was not discussed at the meeting of the EU Committee.
