Gazprom has decided against the expansion of Nord Stream

Gazprom has turned away from the expansion of Nord Stream and prolongation of the pipe to the UK, Reuters reports referring to two sources in Gazprom.

“The political situation is complicated now. We were not allowed into OPAL. Why contructing another 2 branches? We don’t construct”, the source said. “There are no plans to expand Nord Stream and prolong it to the UK. We don’t consider it”, another source said.

Gazprom planned to expand Nord Stream from 2 to 4 branches and prolong it to the UK. Gas is shipped to Europe by 2 branches with the total capacity of 55 bln cubic m  of gas a year, however, the gas pipeline is loaded by 50% of its capacity due to the restrictions of Gazprom’s access to OPAL.
