Belarus to reduce the annual gas import by 5 bln cubic m by 2022

By 2022 Belarus will reduce the annual import of gas by 5 bln cubic m, is said in the new edition of the directive #3 “On priority directions of strengthening of the country’s economic safety”.

The new edition of the directive presupposes measures which are to increase the level of the country’s energy safety. In particular, the Council of Ministers is ordered to take measures to reduce the risks and evasion of crisis situations in the energy supply. The reduction of the level of greenhouse gas emissions after the launch of the Belarus nuclear power plant to 7 mln tons a year by 2022 with the help of substitution of up to 5 bln cubic m of imported gas in the fuel balance of the country is to contribute into that.

The country’s own fuel and energy resources will be engaged into the fuel balance, including recoverable energy sources. The stake of primary energy in the consumption of the fuel and energy balance is to make up at least 16%, the stake of primary energy out of recoverable sources – at least 6%.
