A. Texler: World economy will need hydrocarbons for at least 20 years

​The need of the world economy in hydrocarbons – oil, gas and coal – will stay for at least 20 years by means of the growth of consumption, the first deputy Minister of Energy, A. Texler, said.

Hydrocarbons substitution has already started if to take into account the number of potential consumers. Now about 18% of population of our planet stays without electric energy, according to the UN. Moreover, in the coming 15-17 years the number of people might increase by another 2 bln and they will need cheap and accessible energy. So in the coming 20 years the need in hydrocarbons will stay, he said.

According to him, now over 80% of the world energy balance is occupied by fuel: oil, gas and coal.

In future the world will move towards the recoverable electric energy, however, it can’t cover the entire energy balance.
