The US sanctions make it to Norway.
Shareholders of Seadrill are suing it because of "Rosneft" deal failure.
Norway's Seadrill, which failed to close the deal with "Rosneft" worth $ 4 billion because of sanctions, now faces court claims by its own shareholders. They challenged the decision of Seadrill not to pay dividends in the courts of New York, which it explained with the breakdown of the deal with "Rosneft". The process will put additional pressure on business of Seadrill, which is already suffering from falling oil prices: the company's shares fell by 5.6 times over the last year.
Seadrill, owned by ship magnate John Fredriksen, was in a difficult situation due to the suspension of the deal with "Rosneft". The company planned to share assets and contract drilling operations on a total volume of about $ 4 billion, but the US sanctions prevented this. As a result, Seadrill announced a ceasing of dividend payments, and proceeds from the potential transaction in the amount of $ 4.1 billion were frozen in a reserve account. Now, Seadrill has stated in a report for Q2, its shareholders had filed three lawsuits in the Court for the Southern District of New York, accusing the company that it "made misleading statements regarding the payment of dividends". According to the shareholders, top managers, in particular, did not disclose information about the risks of the transaction with "Rosneft", postponed to March 2017. The report informs that the company intends to "vigorously defend its position, but can not predict the outcome of the case."
