LNG demand dramatically increased in Japan after the emergency at the atomic power plant in Fukushima and today a third of world LNG supplies goes to Japan – mainly from Australia, Qatar and Malaysia. Japanese companies also plan to start the purchases in Mozambique and North America.
“Russian can be strong, a very strong candidate” for an increase of supplies, the Osaka Gas Co’s President, Hiroshi Ozaki said at the International Energy Week in Singapore. He didn’t specify how much his company wants to increase the purchases from Russia.
