Russian LNG projects: who to get Eastern markets faster?
The Ministry of Energy predicts that in the next ten years, by 2025, the volume of LNG production in Russia and its export will grow from 10 million to 50-60 million tons per year. Primarily projects, aimed at the supply of products to large and rapidly developing Asia-Pacific market, will contribute this. In particular, the Ministry counts on the increase in the supply of the products to Japan two times, to about 16 million tons per year. Other major its importers in the region probably will show their interest in Russian liquefied gas too.
At present, 35% of European imports, about 60% of the deliveries to the CIS states and only about 7% of the deliveries in the Asia Pacific region fall on the Russian gas. Accordingly, it is reasonable to develop in the direction of increasing the market share in Asia Pacific region. The region buys about 69% of LNG in the world, so the construction of enterprises for the production of these products is the most obvious way for companies to increase their presence here. The liberalization of the LNG export being carried out will allow not only Gazprom, but also Novatek and Rosneft, which have projects on LNG plants construction, to get access to these markets.
