Mikhail Prokhorov talks about anti-crisis strategy of Russian authorities

Russia has faced a crisis of waste development model that was considered the only correct one for the past 15 years, and requires new approaches to governance, says Mikhail Prokhorov, ex-leader of the Civic Platform, in an article, written for the Kommersant.

Although sanctions against Russia were imposed more than six months ago, and oil began to decline since last autumn, the authorities haven’t begun to develop programs to combat the crisis, hoping for Russian “maybe”. Lack of strategy is confirmed by unprecedented bureaucratic dissonance: today even a layman can see that the Russian Government doesn’t act as a team.

Russian macroeconomists in the civil service are lost in broad daylight and can’t prioritize the maintenance of the ruble, restraint of inflation or provision of economic growth, while the experience of big business and practicing economists is almost completely ignored.

The main risk for the management system is the absence of leaders with experience in management of the economy on a downward trend, that is, from dashing 1990s.
