Gazprom to start gas auctions for export

In September, Gazprom will begin testing a new mechanism for selling gas to Europe - auctions at the St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX). This may be an attempt to use the full capacity of a branch from Nord Stream, the Opal pipeline, only 50% of which Gazprom can use currently and the way to increase the sales. Experts consider the bids an experiment, as their volume is small - less than 2% of the supply, but note that the export policy of Gazprom has forced to become more flexible.

In September, Gazprom plans to hold an auction for 3 billion cubic meters of gas at SPIMEX for deliveries to the European market, head of monopoly Alexei Miller reports. This amount will be divided into 120 lots, the main point of the supply will be the destination point of the Nord Stream gas pipeline - German Greifswald. Mr. Miller admitted that a few more points might be on the route, such as Gaspool.
