Kola mining and metallurgical company plans to increase nickel production

The fifth direct current unit has been launched at the converter station PP-70 of the nickel cell plant of the Kola mining and metallurgical company (KGMK, a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel). Its launch completed preparation of KGMK’s energy capacities to increase of the electrolytic nickel production to 120 thousand tons.

The production of cathode metal is an energy-intensive process, so the increase in output is impossible without the increased power capacity. To solve this problem five new direct current units were gradually installed at the converter station PP-70. Their technical characteristics exceed characteristics of the previous five units, which were obsolete and worn out.
