Gazprom opens border for the Baltic states, but this hasn’t benefited local consumers

It became known yesterday that Gazprom had allowed consumers of the Baltic states to reexport gas, thereby it has fulfilled one of the EU’s requirements. This happened “several years ago”, but the upgrade of the gas pipeline between Latvia and Lithuania was completed only in the summer. Now Lithuania, which conflicts with Gazprom and buys Russian gas at high price, theoretically can buy significant volumes at cheaper price from Latvia. But there is almost no real transportation. Negotiations are in process, but Latvia hasn’t a lot of excess gas. It’s impossible to reexport Gazprom’s gas to Europe from the Baltic states for while.
