Sibur increases production of butyl rubber

Petrochemical holding company Sibur has summarized the work of its Togliatti site in 2014. Togliattikauchuk produced a record volume of butyl rubber and methyl tert-butyl ether, and new residents came in the industrial park of Tolyattisintez.

Adapt to the market

In 2014, Togliattikauchuk produced record volume of such products, demanded by the market, as butyl rubber and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE is a high-octane additive to motor gasoline). As general director of Togliattikauchuk and Tolyattisintez Yuri Morozov reported, the volume of the MTBE production made up 72.6 thousand tons (by 19% more than the year before), butyl rubber - 53 thousand tons. For comparison, in 2013, 50 thousand tons of butyl rubber were produced.

The increase became possible due to completion of BC-53 project by Sibur in December 2013 - January 2014. As a result of the large-scale reconstruction of the butyl rubber production, for which 1.3 billion rubles were spent, equipment reliability was increased, and impact on the environment was significantly reduced. The Board member and managing director of the Directorate of synthetical rubbers of Sibur Mikhail Gordin reported that currently they were working on the registration of this production’s capacity in the volume of 60 thousand tons per year.
