Russia’s future in Central Asia on the background of large-scale buy-up of Central Asian energy resources by China
The leader of PRC, Xí Jìnpíng visits former republics of the Soviet Union and signs energy transactions in the amount of almost $100 billion, including the $15 billion contract in Uzbekistan, the $30 billion contract in Kazakhstan and the $50 billion contract in Turkmenistan.
Having stopped in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, Xí Jìnpíng called these transactions financed by China “the economic zone of the new Silk Road”.
The President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov provides for almost a half of the gas imported by China. On September 4th, Berdymukhamedov and Xí Jìnpíng took part in the ceremony devoted to the beginning of gas extraction at new Turkmen deposits which will let the country satisfy almost one third of Chinese gas needs by 2020.
