Gazprom to purchase LNG from Cameroon
Gazprom Marketing and Trading Singapore Pte Ltd (Gazprom M&T) has signed an agreement on the purchase of LNG (1.2 mln tons a year) for 8 years. LNG will be produced at the floating LNG-plant Hilli at the coast of Cameroon.
Gazprom M&T, Perenco (UK-France), Golar LNG (UK), Societe Nationale des Hydrocarbures du Cameroun (SNH, Cameroon) participate in the project.
The gas deposit belongs to SNH and Perenco, the operator of the gas liquefaction projects is Golar. Hilli vessel was used as an LNG-tanker, after the reconstruction the vessel will turn into a floating LNG plant.
The floating LNG plant may start working at the coast of Cameroon in Q2 2017, the first LNG supplies are expected in H2 2017.
In the near future two similar projects will be realized in Africa: Fortuna operated by Ophir near the coast of Equatorial Guinea (2.2 mln tons of LNG a year) and the belonging to Eni Coral plant at the shelf of Mozambique (2.5 mln tons of LNG a year).
