USA: Nord Stream-2 not to increase energy safety of Europe
The project of the gas pipeline is the doubling of one pipeline from one source instead of creation of a few routes from several sources on this territory, the deputy US Secretary of State for the energy issues, E. Sherwood-Randall, said.
And this deprives the Ukraine of very important transit fee collection which is significant from the point of view of problems with the budget of the Ukraine, she said.
The PMs of Chizhia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and President of Lithuania signed a letter to the representative of the EU Commission, J.-C. Yunker, opposing the realization of Nord Stream-2. According to them, the project bears the risks of geolopolitical destabilization. In late 2015 Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia sent a letter to Brussels criticizing the project and saying that it can strengthen the dependence of Europe on gas from Russia, weaken the energy independence of Central Europe and EU, lead to further destabilization of the situation in the Ukraine.
