China finds another competitor to Gazprom. Beijing starts to buy gas in Burma

While Gazprom unsuccessfully continues the negotiations of many years on the supply of Russian gas to China, Beijing launches the second alternative route of fuel imports. Last week, Chinese CNPC started to receive gas via pipeline with the capacities of 12 billion cubic meters per year from Myanmar, constructed during the last 3 years. China also plans to increase supplies via gas pipeline from Turkmenistan. Total supplies from Burma and Turkmenistan cover over 22% of gas consumption in China already.
