Russian rolled copper and its alloys can put competitive pressure on imports

Copper cathodes production in Russia is actually distributed between Norilsk Nickel, UGMK and Russian Copper Company. Last year it was slightly less than 1 million tons, Y. Raikov, the CEO of Tsvetmetobrabotka says. Production of copper rolled wire, cables and conductors was 744,000 tons in 2013, and exports were 405,000 tons. Production of rolled copper and its alloys was 70,000 tons.

UGMK has registered the Yelansky GOK

UGMK developing the Yelanskoye and the Yelkinskoye copper and nickel deposits has registered in Voronezh, the Yelansky GOK. UGMK holds 40% in the authorized capital of the entity and Mednogorsk copper and sulfur combine (a 100% branch of UGMK, the license holder of the Yelanskoye and the Yelkinskoye copper and nickel deposits) holds 60%

Copper plant of Udokan to be able to process raw materials from other deposits, including from Mongolia

The large copper plant, which will be built near the town of Yasnogorsk in the Trans-Baikal region within the development of the Udokan deposit, will also work with raw materials from deposits of the south-east of the region and Mongolian Erdenet.
This was noted by the deputy prime minister of the Trans-Baikal region, Evgeny Vishnjakov, who again commented on the results of the competition for the right to develop the Udokan copper deposit and related prospects of the region.
He recalled that two compound companies had claimed the Udokan deposit at the last stage. These were Russian Copper Company with the interests of the consortium of Ural mining and metallurgical company and Russian Railways, as well as the tandem of Metallinvest’s Mikhailovsky GOK with the state corporation Rostec.

Kirov non-ferrous metal working plant increased output of rolled metal almost by 4%

In January-June of 2014, Kirov non-ferrous metal working plant (KZOTsM, a part of UGMK-OTsM) increased the output of rolled ferrous metals by 3.7% as compared with the same period in 2013.

Kirov non-ferrous metal working plant increases output of non-ferrous rolled metal by 6.1%

In January-May 2014, the Kirov non-ferrous metal plant (a part of UGMK) increased the production of rolled non-ferrous metals. The growth is 6.1% as compared with the same period of the previous year, the company’s press centre reports.
"56.5% of the total production fell on rolled brass, 40.3% on copper, 0.4% and 2.8% on bronze and copper-nickel respectively. The major share in the structure of rolled metal took copper strips and sheets (22.8%), LS rods (19.8%), brass and copper radiator tapes (19%), production of electrical purposes (tires, wire, electrical tape and profiles – 10. 0%). Brass strips and sheets made up 15.6%. Other types of rolled metal took 12.8%, "- the press release said.

In the Q1 KNMP increases production by 15.3%.

In January- March 2014 Kirov Non-ferrous Metals Processing plant (KNMP, part of UGMK - NFMP) increased the output of rolled non-ferrous metals by 15.3 % compared to the same period in 2013.
56.7% of total production was brass rolled; 38.9 % for copper; for bronze and copper-nickel - 0.5 % and 3.9 %, respectively.

Copper cathodes production in Russia is factually shared between Norilsk Nickel, UGMK and Russian Copper Company; in 2012 it was less than 1 million tons, Y. Raikov, the CEO of Tsvetmetobrabotka says at the Second All-Russian Conference “Copper, brass, bronze: the tendencies of production and consumption”.
In 2012, copper wire production was 724,000 tons, and exports were 384,000 tons. Rolled copper and copper alloys production was 70,000 tons.
