The Ukraine decides not to export coal to Russia

DTEK (Ukraine) didn’t want to prolong the contract with the only Russian company that purchased coal in the Ukraine – Novocherkassk GRES (Rostov region).

The Novocherkassk power station will open a tender for the selection of a new supplier. This decision of DTEK means the actual stopping of Ukrainian coal shipments to Russia. Companies of other sectors don’t need the Ukraine’s coking coal.

DTEK is the largest energy company in the Ukraine. It is in the structure of the financial-industrial group “System Capital Management”, the main shareholder of which is R. Akhmetov. The enterprise holds 13 plants, 31 mines, 10 thermal plants and heat power plants. 140 thousand people are employed at the company. In May DTEK was reported to have raised the volume of coal enrichment by 10.1% and to keep increasing the respective capacities as well as modernize its mines and renew their equipment fleets. The Novocherkassk power plant is managed by OGK-2 (Russia) which is controlled by Gazprom.
