Coal at Ukrainian thermal power plants is enough until mid November

Due to the military activities in Donbass, where most of the Ukrainian coal mines are located, the thermal power plants have not been able to renew their stocks. The head of the Independent Miners’ Union of the Ukraine, M.Volynets said.

There is about 1.7 million tons of coal in the storages, according to him. It is enough until the middle of November. “It would not be critical if all mines operated. But approximately 50 mines do not operate. They just pump out water from the mines to save them. One can say they are lost,- Volynets said. Besides, the restructured mines are also flooded. The adjacent mines are also under threat.

The director of the Environmental Investments Fund, A.Khabatyuk says there was 2.1 million tons of coal in the storages, as of August 26th, 2014. While it made up 4.5-4.7 million tons in late August 2013.
