In past decade, coal production grew by about a quarter

Yesterday, Minister of Energy Alexander Novak presented a long-term program of Russian coal industry development through until 2030 at the session of the Russian Government, the web-site of the Energy Ministry reports.

The Ministry’s head called results of the sector restructuring successful. “Today, the coal industry is, maybe, the only sector, which completely adapted after structural transformations and really lives on market, - Alexander Novak noted. – In the recent 10 years, the coal production grew by about a quarter and now it exceeds 350 million tons per year. Although at the same time, the employment volume decreased from 850 thousand to 160 thousand persons. So, the workforce productivity increased 4 times in fact, as well as the amount of investments into capital stock of coal enterprises. New facilities for coal mining with capacity of over 20 million tons are launched every year”.
