ChMZ has shipped the last lot of superconductive strands for ITER

On December 3rd 2014 the specialists of ChMZ OJSC (in the structure of the fuel company TVEL) shipped the last lot of superconductive strands for the ITER magnetic system. By that the mission of the located in Udmurtiya Chepetsky mechanic plant in the realization of Russia’s participation in the international project ITER has been successfully completed. The recently shipped lot of conductors is to be delivered to “VNIIKP” OJSC, Podolsk, for rolling into cables of toroid and poloidal magnetic field.

ChMZ OJSC completed its task on the output of strands within 6 years having produced about 100 tons of niobium-tinned strands for conductors of toroid field and about 125 tons of niobium-titanium strands for conductors of poloidal fields of the unit. However, it is not just the execution of its obligations by Russia. The execution of this goal is an example of recovery of the country’s industrial potential as the superconductive production line on the territory of the Udmurtiya plant was founded from scratch.
