Mittal is permitted to import coke to the Ukraine

The Cabinet of Ministers has raised a prohibition on import of coke to the country. The Krivoy Rog metallurgic asset of Lakshmi Mittal considers taking advantage of this.

On July 3, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution №462, which changed the previous way of coke import to the Ukraine. A volume of its import in the amount of 210 thousand tons was determined for the current 2013 instead of the zero quota on the import of such products.

The zero quota on import of various types of coke was provided for by the governmental decree №225 dated on March, 13. This document is still a reason of obvious discontent of metallurgists, because it sets a limited import of raw coal for coke production - in the amount of 10.2 million tons. The distribution of this amount among importers caused discontent of some of them. Two enterprises – the Alchevsk metallurgic plant and Alchevskkoks (included in the corporation ISD, which is controlled by Russian capital) - sued against the Ukrainian government, insisting on illegality of the introduction of import quotas. Representatives of cement companies also joined the campaign "against the decree № 225" – they were left out in the distribution of quotas in May of the current year.
