For the first 9 months of 2013,the Sakhalin coal miners have mined more than 2.9 million tons of coal – by 5% less than during the analogous period of 2012, the regional Ministry for fuel and energy secor and housing and public utilities reported.
“The reduction is mainly conditioned by the lowering of coal consumption by energy companies due to the gasification of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Central Heating and Power Plant-1. This year Sakhalinugol Management Company closed one of its open-pit mines in central part of Sakhalin which used to mine 200 thousand tons”, the source said.
