The technology of almost complete processing of heavy oil residues is created in Russia.

The Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis named after Topchiev of Russian Academy of Sciences (TIPS RAS) created a unique ultrafine catalyst and developed a technology of its hydroconversion (the Russian SlurryHydroconversion process) for the processing of heavy oil raw materials (tar, atmospheric and vacuum residues of heavy high-viscosity oils, tar oils, natural bitumen, etc.).

The technology, developed jointly with Chevron Lummus Global (CLG), is based on the results of research and technological development in the field of hydrocracking of heavy raw materials, maintained by the CLG and TIPS for more than 30 years.
