Ukraine tries to prove energy independence from Moscow

The Ukraine is proving its energy dependence from Moscow not for the first month, trying to come up with new ways to survive the winter without Russian gas. First due to idleness of the Donbass coal mines Kiev decided to buy coal from South Africa: the country has already contracted 1 million tons for October 2014 - January 2015. Yuriy Prodan, the head of the Ministry of Energy of the Ukraine, admitted that there is no economic sense in such procurement. The fuel costs will be $ 91 per ton in the Ukrainian port, while the Russian coal would cost $ 80 per ton.
