Mechel slightly increased coal mining by 3% to 5.7 mln tons in Q1 2016

​In Q1 2016 Mechel increased coal mining by 3% against Q1 2015 to 5.663 mln tons.

Coal sales fell by 25%.

The sale of coking coal concentrate rose by 6% to 2.156 mln tons.

The sale of PCI coal fell by 19% to 530 thousand tons.

The sale of anthracites fell by 25% to 409 thousand tons.

This reduction was covered by the growth of sales of thermal coal which rose by 21% and made up 1.779 mln tons.

The coal market environment didn’t change: the world coal companies are pressurized by the price factor.

In early Q2 2016 the prices for coking coal increased slightly both in the domestic market and export directions.

We treat it as a good sign for the sector, the CEO of Mechel, O. Korzhov, said.
